Ducklings

This class is for children who turn three during the year.

Their teacher is Avellyn Gloyne, and the assistant
Joyce Mangena.

A very happy morning is spent in the 2-3 year old class. Our goal is to prepare the children for the pre-school class. We usually have the same theme and curriculum as the pre-school, but everything is done at a slower pace and at a level that the children can comfortably cope with.

This is the year where the children learn to conform to the class and school routine. Toilet training, if required, takes place in the first term as does the weaning off bottles and pacifiers. This is done in conjunction with the child's parents.

Our little ones thrive on music and movement and eagerly take part in our little concert at the end of the when each child is given the chance to sing, dance and act in front of their parents. This is a great learning curve and a wonderful confidence builder. The way we approach concerts is not at all stressful for the child, just a fun time for all concerned.

Creative activities are offered everyday and they include: painting, sticking, collage, pottery, box construction and lots and lots of messy play. Cutting skills are developed and many educational games, puzzles and toys are utilized in order to build fine muscle development and hand-eye co-ordination.

Being at a farm school is a tremendous advantage for our pupils and they enjoy the freedom of the outdoors [7 acres], and feeding and interacting with the animals.

Play ball skills are also taught and the many outdoor play structures and scooters are always in demand.

Our little ones need firm boundaries, especially when experiencing the "terrible twos" stage. However, at this age they also need lot of love and affection and this is readily given in abundance.

Social and emotional development is very important and this is promoted with a large amount of free play and especially free play where children can dress up and socialize in our play house.

Mid-morning snack and juice are provided and a healthy balanced cooked meal is also offered at lunch time. During the meal time, the children learn table manners as well as how to eat correctly.

What a busy time we have every day, full of fun and laughter.
