Nigel Fitton - Co-owner

I was born in Manchester in 1944 and attended Grammar School in Manchester where I met Phedre.

I attended Salford University obtaining an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering in 1965.I worked for a large firm of Civil Engineering contractors in UK before joining a firm of Consulting Engineers in London.

Phedre & I married in 1967 and had 2 children before moving out to Dar-Es Salaam, where I was involved in supervising the harbour construction. We then moved to Nairobi, and then onto Addis Ababa where I ran an office for UK consultants designing an extension to Haile Selasie University.

In 1976 we moved to Mombasa where our third daughter was born.
I still worked for a UK consultant handling the project management of construction projects all over East Africa.

In late 1979 we moved to South Africa where I joined Anglo American Corporation in project management of Gold Mine Projects.

In 1983 I represented South Africa in the World Public Speaking Competition in San Diego.

In 1981 joined Eskom as Project Civil Engineer on Kendal Power Station. During the time I attended a UNISA Management Development Programme where I was a member of the Best Group in 1988. In 1998 I won a Gold Medal in the Eskom Managers Challenge.

In 1991 I was seconded by Eskom to run Skills SA Foundation - a non-profit organisation to promote artisan skills. I organised the first team of young South African artisans to attend the International Youth Skill Olympics in Taipei in 1995 and again in Lyon in 1997. I took an early retirement option from Eskom in 1995 and we bought Broadacres in 1996.

I have been involved in the administration and marketing of the school. I enjoy reading, movies, travelling, wine & good food.
