Junior Prep · Grade 0 – Grade 3

The Age of
Wonder.

Junior Prep is the phase of “my teacher says”, where reading takes root, numbers click, and the world gets big. Housed on our Syringa campus, between classroom and garden, structured learning and time to wonder.

Our approach

Where learning takes root.

Junior Prep students working with geometric shapes at a classroom table

Strong early foundations

Focused, carefully scaffolded teaching in reading, writing and mathematics. Deep mastery in the subjects that open every door later.

Curiosity led

Real-world projects that carry meaning. Exploring why shadows move, how seeds germinate, what happens when you mix colours. Learning that starts with a question, not a worksheet.

Classrooms that move

Flexible seating and learning centres, some of them outdoors, so children can sit, move, build, read or work together depending on what the lesson needs. Regular outdoor teaching at Syringa is a way of teaching, not a field trip.

Curriculum

A real programme, built for the age.

Reading, writing & mathematics
Focused, carefully scaffolded teaching in the subjects that open every door later. Small-group instruction builds deep mastery in the fundamentals.
Real-world projects
Curiosity-led work that carries meaning. Exploring why shadows move, how seeds germinate, what happens when you mix colours. Learning starts with a question, not a worksheet.
Creative arts, music & movement
Art, music and movement run alongside the academic programme — not bolted on. Children build expression, rhythm and confidence across the week.
Outdoor learning
Regular teaching outdoors at the Syringa campus. Not a field trip — a way of teaching, with lessons designed around the garden, the bush and the weather.
Aftercare & transport

After school is still school.

Optional aftercare runs in-house via Our Little Village, with a half-day and full-afternoon option. Our bus service links the Syringa campus to the wider area for Junior Prep families.

Our Little Village · Aftercare

An optional add-on.

For Junior Prep, aftercare is an optional add-on at additional cost (per the fee schedule). Choose between a half-day to 15:30 or a full afternoon to 17:00, with gates closing at 17:30. A cooked lunch, structured supervision and a light snack are included.

No aftercare on half-term and end-of-term days. Holiday care runs through Our Little Village, with minimal closures throughout the year.

Transport

Our bus service, at this phase.

From Junior Prep onwards, families can use our school bus service. A shuttle also runs between Syringa and Chartwell for families with older siblings at Senior Prep or High School — speak to the office for the current timetable.

For safety, Uber or similar drop-off is not permitted without a parent or guardian present.
